When we first read Maia's Chinese name, we had a difficult time deciding which part of her name we would keep. Her full Chinese name is Xi He Su, and we even thought about keeping all of her Chinese name. But that seemed a little bit long for such a little girl! We went with HeSu, but then began thinking that maybe it would be important to keep the "Xi". What we realized is that the "Xi" is derived from the name of the city where her orphanage is located (Wuxi). The "Su" part of her name is really special because her nannies call her "Su Su". We couldn't really find anything very significant about the "He" part of her name, and began thinking maybe we should just go with Maia XiSu instead. So, after probably confusing all of you, we've officially changed our daughter's name! XiSu is pronounced She-Sue. Most likely we will call her "Sue Sue" in China and then gradually will switch to Maia. Did everybody follow that??

We still didn't decide yet. We really want Grace as the middle name but too many names will drive her crazy. I think if we keep anything it will just be the Xi. That is what is important to me since she was born there. However, we don't know nicknames....so perhaps we will change her mind. I guess we will have time in China to decide. Of course we have like 20 hours on a plane for such conversations!
