We received an email update from our old agency about adoptions in Vietnam, and it appears that the US and Vietnam haven't reached an agreement to find a way to continue adoptions between the two countries. The previous agreement expires on September 1st, although Vietnam's adoption system deteriorated many months ago. What this means for us is that our adoption paperwork, which was sent over to Vietnam in June 2007, will be returned to us in a few weeks. Although we lost a considerable amount of money with this program, Marty and I are at peace with letting go of this potential adoption. We were open to the idea of finishing an adoption in Vietnam if the doors stayed open, but we know our hands will be full enough this year with welcoming home our beautiful Maia! We haven't gone far enough to say that this will be our only adoption or that we've given up on Vietnam forever........but maybe it will be our only one for 2008 anyway:)
