This poem by Robert Frost has always been one of my favorites. It's been such and uplitfting an encouraging little poem for me as I'm taking "The Road Less Traveled" through our adoption. We knew this path would be the more difficult one, and it might have been easier for us to just be "content" to raise one child. But then, I wonder would it have been less complicated for us to take the easy path? The easy path looks so tempting during our sleepless nights, our days of wading through mountains of paperwork, and the moments of panic when our finances are stretched to their limits. But then, I walk past the most beautiful face I've ever seen looking at me from my refrigerator door and I know in an instant why I couldn't take the easier road. Her name is Maia and her life to me has made all the difference!
"Two roads diverged in a yellow road
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth
Then took the other as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no stpe had trodden back
Oh, I kept the first for another day
Yet, knowing how way leads onto way
I doubted if I should ever come back
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence
Two roads diverged in a wood
And I took the one less traveled by
And that has made all the difference."
