I found an interesting article in "Adoptive Families" with some recent facts about adoptions from China. I thought this might be helpful in answering some of the most common questions we receive about our adoption.
Adoption of children from China to the US began in 1992 when the Chinese government passed a law ratifying international adoption. In 2007, Americans adopted 5,453 children from China, the largest number from any country outside the US.

Travel : At least one parent must travel to China to adopt. Average stay is 10-14 days.
Timeline : For homestudy, approximately 4-6 months. From completed dossier to referral, approximately 30-36 months, although agencies are reporting lengthening wait times. Travel is usually three months after referral. Total timeframe : 37-45 months (Yes, 3-4 years!)
Family Status : Married couples only. Married a minimum of 2 years if a first marriage; 5 years if second or third marriage. No more than 2 previous marriages allowed for either spouse. No more than 4 children living in the home.
Education: Both spouses must have a H.S. diploma, and one parent must have a four year college degree.
Income: Household income must be at least $40,000 with an additional $10,000 for each child living in the home, including the child to be adopted.
Other: Additional requirements regarding assets, health and legal history have also been put in place.
