During the past several weeks, we've been very busy updating our paperwork for Maia's adoption. This paperwork involves another visit with our social worker, who gathers information from us about our family and creates a 10 page document called a "homestudy". This "homestudy" is just one piece of our "dossier", which is a fancy word for all of the paperwork we're required to send to China to recieve approval to adopt Maia. Our dossier includes about 8 documents including letters from our employers, our physicians, our local police department and others. Some other requirements during our paperchasing include updating our child abuse clearances and FBI clearances and being fingerprinted once again for the FBI and immigration services. We've now been fingerprinted four times each over the past 18 months!
The most important aspect of our journey at this moment is our "pre-approval" from China to adopt Maia. The CCAA (China Center of Adoption Affairs) requires this step before a family can officially send their dossier to China. Pre-approval usually takes about 12 weeks, and our request was sent on March 25th. We're really taking this part of our journey on faith as we wait and pray for this final door to Maia to open!
